Looking for Automatic Espresso reviews and recommendations? Don't understand the lingo? Before you buy an Automatic espresso machine, let's first understand the terminology. The "Automatic" machines are so named because some or all of the espresso making process is done automatically by the machine. Also, all of the "Automatic" espresso makers are electric and use a pump to drive water through the portafilter. (The "Manual" machines use a level and arm strength to make a shot. There is nothing automated about these types of espresso machines. Lever type makers are not included on this site).
Automatic Espresso MachinesDid you know there are three types of automatic espresso machines? Semi, fully and super automatic espresso. Reviews and recommendations will be a consideration as well as your preference and budget when buying an automatic machine. As with any purchase, you will have to ask yourself what features are important to you and how much do you want to spend. Usually, the more features an automatic machine has, the higher cost. It may be wise to consider a higher end machine with less features than a cheaper unit with more features. Of course this is up to you.

Some general differences in the 3 types of machines are given below. Click on the links for more information on each type. Automatic espresso reviews are also listed. Choices
-
Semi Automatic
User turns on machine. Pulls shot. Turns off machine. Can't walk away. User will grind, dose and tamp.
-
Fully Automatic (also referred to as Automatic)
User turns on machine. Shot is pulled and machine automatically shuts off. Grinding, dosing and tamp may/may not be automatic.
-
Super Automatic
User turns on machine. The rest is automatically performed by the unit.
Also, take note of the boiler. If a machine has a single boiler only it can't make an espresso and steam milk at the same time. If this feature is important to you, look for a machine with a heat exchanger or a double boiler, both of which include a higher price tag.
